Flickr Mashups
Welcome to the Flickr Mashups section of dopiaza.org. Here you will find lots of useful information about my book, Flickr Mashups, published by Wiley under their Wrox imprint. You can see the the book over there to the left. I know, I look very serious on the front cover—don't worry, I don't always look like that.
In these pages, you'll be able to find out a little bit about the book and what it covers. Most importantly, if you don't already have one, I'll tell you where you can buy a copy.
If you already have a copy of the book, you'll find useful supplementary information here including enhancements to some of the projects covered in the book, details of Flickr features that are new or changed since the book was written, pointers to interesting Flickr tools and applications and a host of other useful bits and pieces. I'll be updating this site regularly, so be sure to check back often. I'll also announce any interesting updates in my blog on the front page of this web site.
About the Book
Flickr Mashups is a hands-on guide to building applications and mashups using the Flickr API. In it you'll learn the differences between remixes and mashups, and be taken on a guided tour of some of the various technologies used in their creation. The book walks you through the process of creating a whole variety of mashups and remixes-each chapter shows you, step-by-step, how to turn a project idea into a fully working application. In these projects, you will see how to use the Flickr API to host your own photo gallery, how to use Firefox and Greasemonkey to customise the Flickr web site and how to mix Flickr data with other applications and data sources, such as RSS feeds or Google Maps.
Whether you're a novice programmer seeking to write web applications, or an experienced developer looking for an introduction to the world of mashups, there should be something in this book for you. Buy it now!
Code Downloads
If you are looking for the code that is used in Flickr Mashups, you can download a zip file containing all the code printed in the book from the Wrox web site.
Updates and Errata
One of the challenges in both writing about and in building software to interact with systems such as Flickr is having to deal with way they evolve over time. In the Updates section of this web site, you'll find articles on any changes and new features introduced by Flickr since the book was written, together with notes on how they might affect the projects contained within the book. Other Places to Go
If you're interested in seeing other examples of what can be done with the Flickr API, a good place to start is the Flickr section of this web site, where you can find some other bits and pieces that I have built. I'm also putting together a set of other interesting Flickr-related links.
Tell Me About Your Creations
After you've worked through the book, I'd love to know the kinds of mashups and applications you go on to build, so please do let me know all about your creations. You can get in touch via the contact page.
